Teething and Earache Remedies, Because it's Hard for Everyone!

We just had a week of teething and fever for my baby, and one thing is for sure, cutting teeth is hard on them and everyone around them! His top tooth finally came through and now we're just waiting for the other to pop through as well.

But whew, restless nights, fevering, irritability, and a lack of interest in eating was quite the deal. Here is a list of things that helped us get through it all:

  1. Homeopathy: chamomilla, which is a common teething remedy, and belladonna, for the fevers

  2. Teeth Tamer by Earthley

  3. Breastmilk popsicles (although he was less interested in these)

  4. Babywearing

  5. Lowered expectations for me in regards to what I could get done around home, and spending time rocking/holding him

If you're in the thick of teething, I feel for you! And hopefully it will pass soon, just like it did for us, until next time that is ;)

A few weeks prior to this all of my kids came down with a cold for a couple of days, and due to the congestion, ended up complaining of their ears hurting. I have an otoscope at home so I was able to peek in ears and make sure everything looked okay. Some redness was present in one kid's ears but nothing that made me want to make an appointment with our pediatrician. Instead we did the following things at home:

  1. Garlic ear oil, which you can buy here or make your own if you are feeling ambitious

  2. An epsom salt ear sock, warmed up. I got this idea from Heather at Mommypotamus here.

  3. Lymph drainage massage over the sinuses and throat. This looks like taking your thumbs and making a sweeping direction along the eyebrows starting at the nose and moving towards their ears. Repeat underneath their eyes, starting at the nose and sweeping towards their ears. Then make sweep from their ears down the side of their throat.

I also always adjust my kids when they complain of their ears hurting. I highly recommend getting your kids into your chiropractor as soon as you can if they have this complaint too.

Anything else that you have found helpful during these kinds of situations? Let me know!
